ID-Consult Modularization Study

We have asked around.

While the customer needs are becoming more complex and specific by the minute, manufacturers are under constant pressure to increase efficiency. Today companies rely on modular systems to manage the balancing act between the conflicting issues of external and internal variance.

How important is the actual impact of modular systems on corporate success? Which business functions show gaps in competence and what are the steps companies need to take to implement the modular strategy in their organization and processes in the long run?

Our research study "The impact of Modular Systems on Corporate Success" has been enabling us to get to the bottom of these and many other questions since 2013. After a detailed evaluation of the study, the companies with the best results received the Modularization Readiness Award.

ID-Consult Study 2014

The data of the first ID-Consult study was collected in 2013 and 2014. We primarily focused on the levels of competence at individual stages of the value chain and their impact on corporate success.
Then we summarized the main conclusion and central results of the study in a quick start guide. The guide is available for download on our webiste and describes how to reduce and manage complexity while increasing corporate success.

We will also privide you with the full study upon request. If you are interested, please send an email to

ID-Consult Study 2015

Once again, our cooperation partners helped us to conduct our study this year. Aside from the issue of competence levels, we also determined the level of modular system implementation in 2015. In a next step, we were able to create a significant indicator, the Modularization Readiness Index (MRI), to classify individual companies and corporate areas. Moreover, we created a new quick start guide and summarized the top eight best-practice approaches to successfully design, implement, and manage modular systems.
